• TAN • BROWN HAIR • BLUE EYES • SIMPLE CLOTHES •

A rather plain woman of 5'5" and 130 lbs, Alina has an appearance that speaks of a lifetime of hard work outdoors. Her tan skin has been weathered by days spent in the sun, though she has little time to worry about wrinkles and other such upper-class nonsense. She most frequently wears her long, wavy, brown hair in a coiled braid at the nape of her neck, covered with a sensible straw hat to guard her face and neck against sunburn. Her most striking feature by far is her eyes, which are a light, piercing blue that miss nothing; they frame a straight nose that is just slightly too big for good looks. She is usually dressed in simple clothes. Breeches and loose tunics in neutral colors and tall leather boots are preferred.

A difficult childhood as the bastard daughter of a poor washerwoman shaped Alina into the woman she is today. Having learned at an early age that nothing in life comes easily, Alina grew into a simple, no-nonsense kind of woman who values hard work over anything else. Being treated with disdain throughout her young life gave her a rather jaded perspective of the world, and it's no surprise that she distances herself from everyone with a protective wall around a heart that, despite everything, yearns for love and acceptance. To say that Alina has become a young woman who is self-sufficient and independent is an understatement; indeed, these qualities, which are often prized, are almost too prevalent in this young woman. She has closed herself off from the world because never allowing anyone in means that she can never be hurt. She prefers to rely on no one but herself to avoid the seemingly inevitable disappointment when her hopes are dashed to the ground - again. Alina is stubborn as a mule and prefers the company of animals to most humans.

With that said, however, she is a steadfast ally to family and friends who have earned her trust, though these are few and far between. She is an unendingly kind individual with a soft spot for the poor and downtrodden; it is not uncommon for her to give some of her meager coin or food to those in need. Her life experience has led her to always root for the underdog; she is elated when someone can rise above their circumstances and crushed when they cannot. Above anything else, she is determined to rise above her bastard name and prove herself worthy - though worthy of what, she does not yet know. Her dream is to become a famous horse breeder and trainer.

Opinions on Fae:
"They're uppity, but honestly, how is it any different from upper-class humans looking down their noses at us working folk?"

Opinions on Dragons:
"They'd best leave my horses be, that's for certain! Frightful beasts, the lot of them."

Opinions on Dragon-Blessed:
"A pet dragon might be right useful for protection."

Opinions on Magic-Blessed:
"Killing a beast to boost your own power seems wrong, somehow. When we hunt, it's out of necessity, not greed. Aren't the fae powerful enough without adding more?"
Born in the heart of Vestri to a poor washerwoman and an unknown man, Alina's childhood was not an easy one. Although her mother always told her that her father was off fighting in the war and would return to them one day, it mattered little in the eyes of the townsfolk. To them, her mother was an unmarried woman with a bastard daughter, and they never let Alina forget it. While Vestri may have been more open-minded than the other regions, her last name still labelled her a bastard and she was still treated accordingly. Some openly mocked and taunted for her parentage while others whispered about her behind her back while smiling to her face. "Poor little dear," they'd say as they watched her scrawny form scrounge for an evening meal. But they never lifted a finger to help. It wasn't fair, of course, to punish the child for the sins of the mother, but there you are. Alina learned early on that life wasn't fair, that she couldn't expect to get something for nothing, and that she would have to fight for every inch of ground she hoped to gain with her peers.

While her childhood was rife with self-doubt and shame, her teenage years ushered in an era of rebellion. Why, she was no different from any of the folk that judged her! Who were they to call her a bastard and shun her? No doubt they had their own problems hidden from the light of day. Their skeletons just weren't on display for the world to see. It was during this period of hurt and anger that Alina found her passion for animals. Horses in particular had a calming influence on the girl, and she found herself taking on more odd jobs in the local stables to help her mother put food on the table. Being a bastard, she found, was nearly as good as being a servant - everyone thought they were better than her, so they learned to ignore her. Being practically invisible meant that she could observe and learn a great deal. Before long, she had begun working with several of the local horses in secret, honing her craft.

Before long, she was an adult, and she was off to make a name for herself in the world. She'd learned all she could from the local stables and was determined to learn even more. One day, she promised herself, she would be a world-renowned breeder and trainer of horses. One day, everyone who had once judged her as nothing would know exactly what she was capable of.

Alina keeps a simple dagger on her left hip and a coil of rope on her right. Though she doesn't carry a weapon frequently, she does own a bow for hunting.
